Aesop is the most famous of ancient storytellers and is considered a leader of the so-called «didactic mythology».
In his fables, which were told orally and were taken from everyday life and nature, he condemns evil in its most representative forms: violence, fraud, betrayal, falsehood, greed, cunning and always with some moral lesson at the end.
He was of humble origins and although he lived all his life as a slave the Athenians erected a statue of him after his death to show that every man of worth, regardless of his origins, should be honoured.
