The Prefecture of Chania is one of the four prefectures that comprise the Region of Crete. In the north of the Prefecture is the large plain of Chania, protected on three sides by the White Mountains. The steep mountain cliffs plunge down to superb beaches. Large hotels are being constructed all over the Prefecture and the infrastructure for tourism is sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of even the most demanding visitors. Hania is the capital of the prefecture and also its trading and administrative centre.
