My acquaintance with the work of Ioannis Altamura started almost twenty years ago, in 1993. Invited to a house outside Athens, I saw on the walls a treasure of seascapes which I did not recognise, as my interest at the time was focused on contemporary art. I asked my hosts, who turned out to be descendants and heirs of the Boukouras-Altamura family, about the works, they gave me some information and then I began to search. I got interested in the career and the tragic life of the artist, since to me the human aspect of art and a pioneering approach make up a combination which is typical of all great painters. (...)
